uVote. Voting System of the Future

In the future, voting will be as simple as scratching your nose. Out of 2.5 million registered voters in Los Angeles, only 274,000 voted in the last mayoral elections. We can change that with the most sophisticated, secure online/mobile voting system that will partner with top security companies and government agencies to verify identity and cast votes. People don't vote because they don't believe in the system and because the system doesn't make it easy to vote. However people are constantly expressing their opinions on social media, processing mobile credit card transactions and giving up privacy for two reasons: Immediacy and Access. We believe if asked, people will be willing to give up the same amount of privacy for Transparency. In fact, the success of social media and mobile clearly say that people ARE actually asking for this. Any developers + designers interested in taking up the challenge?

so is your proposal something like “let’s let people vote publicly via facebook”? The historical reason voting can’t be public is because then votes can be bought. That is, right now I can’t pay you $1 to vote for my candidate because I have no way to verify that you have done so. If your official vote is made public, suddenly I can pay you that dollar and get proof that I got my money’s worth.

Having said that, I believe there is a lot of low-hanging fruit in encouraging people to vote more (how about an app that tells the user where to vote, when to vote, what’s up with all the candidates, and what the ballot looks like – but also what their Facebook/Twitter friends are saying about the issues, whether they are friends of friends with any of the candidate, etc.)

I have started some code to this effect i can bring it. however i have some different ideas about transparency through anonimity. Also in order to be effective, the voting mechanism must scale.

I also do not think that civic voting is the place to train users to exercise their voice, the act of casting a ballot can’t be computerized imo however we can build a better decision making process that will simplify choices and make voting seem worthwhile again. Voting is a side process in decision making which is where my interest lies.
